In launching her first perfume range for men, Vera Wang for Men, the eponymous designer said: "Choosing a fragrance for a man is among the most intimate of gestures.
“Deeply provocative, a man s scent embraces and seduces you whenever he draws you close."
It is this attention to detail and deep understanding of the human psyche that has made Vera Wang the success she is today.
Born to Chinese parents in New York in 1949, Wang s first ambition was to become a figure skater in the Olympic Games. However, when this dream was dashed, she instead studied at the Paris Sorbonne and the American Sarah Lawrence College, eventually graduating with a BA in Liberal Arts.
Almost immediately after graduating, Wang joined Vogue and became the fashion magazine giant s youngest-ever editor. It was here that she made her name, leaving 17 years later to work with Ralph Lauren, continuing her education.
Finally, in 1990 she opened her own fashion house on Madison Avenue in her native New York, with a range of bridal wear and evening gowns, starting her own label four years later.
While she is stil most famous for her bridal wear, her designs have also become synonymo
