First by Van Cleef was considered a risk when it made, being the first perfume by a jewellery company, but it quickly became a classic. Its designer, Jean Ellena, said it was “All about the jasmine”, which is the dominant scent at the heart of this stong floral-chypre perfume. Other flowers such as galbanum, orange blossom, heliotrope and ylang-ylang add to the bouquet. The base notes are cedar balanced with sweet vanilla and tonka bean, which leaves a more subtle, lasting fragrance after the initial burst of florals. |
