Thierry Mugler is a unique designer in many ways, but perhaps the best example of this can be seen in his perfumes, which are all inspired by the creator himself, as he provides the innovative impulse himself and then follows each project to its end, having famously once said that he does not look for inspiration.
Therefore, using that blend, every one of his EDTs style is completely personal.
Mugler was born in Strasbourg in 1948, and was first inspired to create by a girlfriend, for whom he designed an outfit aged just 14. His artistic leanings then saw him join a ballet company, the Opera du Rhin, and he moved to Paris aged 19. Two years later he got a job working for the fashion store Gudule as a window dresser, but continued his education with regular trips to London and Amsterdam, before becoming a freelance designer in 1970.
His first collection for women, Café de Paris, was launched in 1971, and it was around this time that he combined with Azzedine Alaia, with whom he would work for the next decade.
After working for the designers Moonlighting in creating an Italian prêt-a-porter range, he started designing under his own label, now also in partnership with Alain Cardeuc.
