French fashion designer Pierre Cardin was part of the Christian Dior company from 1946, until he learned enough to leave Dior behind and start his own fashion house three years later.
Known for his audacious arithmetical style – sometimes said to be very masculine - Cardin was the first designer to open a prêt-a-porter boutique. He was also amongst the first to have his lines of clothing on sale in department stores, which has been a huge success, and to license his brand to a huge selection of accessories.
He launched his first fragrance, Pierre Cardin Pour Monsieur, in 1972, and has gone on to produce a number of great perfumes for women, including Ophelie; Emotion; Winter and Rose.
