Gaultier is the visionary who created some of the iconic costumes worn by Madonna in the 90s, including the famous cone-bra for the Blond Ambition tour.
He first appeared as Pierre Cardins assistant and launched his own collection in 1979.
Besides Madonna, he has also created the costumes for a number of films, including The Fifth Element.
He made his mark on the fragrance market in 1993 with Classique, for women, and followed this up with Le Male for men in 1995. Both were huge hits and Le Male is now the biggest mens fragrance in Europe in terms of sales, and has also enjoyed big success in Australia and America.
In 2000 his third fragrance, Fragile, was released for women but later dropped to limited distribution after not performing as well as hoped. 2005 then saw the appearance of the unisex effort Fragrance for Humanity.
Fleur du Male, his most recent fragrance for men, hit the shelves in 2007. |
