Japanese designer Issey Miyake first learned his trade at TokyosTama Art University before going on to study fashion design at the Ecole de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne.
He then went on to develop his own style by opening his own design studio in Tokyo in 1970.
His new venue allowed him to work on new designs and fabrics and even to design costumes.
His distinctive approach is connected to the concept of change and movement.
His creations have even appeared as art at the Making Things exhibition at the Fondation Cartier pour lArt Contemporain in Paris in 2008.
His clothes appear rigid when on display but seem to become mobile and flowing when warn, like a moving piece of art.
