Created by Maurice Roucel in 2006 and fronted by Hilary Swank, Insolence is one of Guerlain’s most recent inputs to the world of fragrance.
Like nearly all Guerlain perfume you can tell that Insolence is a Guerlain scent without even seeing the packaging, however unlike most Guerlain fragrances Insolence is different. With Insolence they’ve changed their target audience, confessing that Insolence is aimed at women who like Guerlain but don’t feel old enough to wear it.
To target this younger age range Guerlain have combined top notes of Violet and Red Berries with a heart of Orange Blossom, Rose and a base of Iris and Tonka Beans Resin. Beautifully crafted Insolence’s top notes are aggressive and fruity.
The aggressive fruity top notes then soften and mellow but never leave the fragrance entirely. This is continuation of the fruity notes blends well with the lovely dark base notes that balance the top notes to make sure the fragrance isn’t overly sweet.
I often find that deliberate attempts to break into new markets often leave little to be desired and the creation of a somewhat bland fragrance however Insolence really does manage to pull it off.
The Darker base notes are more suggestive and complex than you would first expect but the top notes are youthful and a joy to smell.
