Gucci

The house of Gucci was nothing more than a saddlery shop in 1906 in Florence before growing into one of the most famous fashion brands of all time.

Guccio Gucci (1881-1953) was the son of a Florentine craftsman who set up the store but later moved to Paris and then London, where he worked at the Savoy hotel.

But then in 1920 Gucci suddenly moved back to Italy at the age of 39.

He opened the first Gucci shop with only 30,000 lira, and from then on the business grew.

Following the Second World War, the company was called Guccio Gucci srl, the name which remained in place until Gucci died in 1953.

Then in 1982 the company was renamed Guccio Gucci spA.

The boom time for the company came in the 1960s when the brand first became known as a major status symbol.
