Acqua di Gio created in 1996 for Giorgio Armani is in my mind an ideal fragrance for summer.
Inspired by Giorgio Armani’s summer holidays in Pantelleria Acqua di Gio was created to evoke memories of a breath, no a gust of fresh air and the salt that catches the air near the sea. Often when perfume houses make these grandiose statements to raise expectations we are left feeling a little short changed; in this case however Acqua di Gio definitely lives up to its potential.
Opening with hesperidic notes (a citrus bouquet to you and me) that burst out into the air around you with a zesty yet non to sweet aroma Acqua di Gio then reveals its fresh salty heart with floral nuances.
After this initially explosion of scent Aqua di Gio leads you to a delicately balanced floral aroma that has been put together with such precision that you constantly get hints of fruits with lashings of accord but always, always that aquatic tinge that leaves you longing for the breeze in summer by the sea.
When it comes down to it Acqua di Gio is a very clean crisp aquatic fragrance with all the subtly and craftsmanship of a true master, if you’ve tried the likes of Issey Miyake pour homme or Cool Water for men then you’ll more than likely love Acqua di Gio.
