Escada

German fashion name Escada first appeared in 1976 - a creation of Wolfgang and Margarethe Ley.

Ley remained its chief designer from its early beginnings right up until her death in 1992.

Her success was based on the belief that a designer could not do well simply by relying on their creativity but needed market nous.

As a result she forged a clear identity for Escada - slick, sophisticated and clean.

After her death Michael Stolzenburg stepped into her shoes as successor.

As a result the Escada lines have adopted a fresh and vibrant edge with a youthful feel.

His approach involves blending older design approaches with modern ideas.
