Although it began as a saddlery business producing accessories for automobiles, Dunhill now produces a fragrance of such high quality that world-famous actor Jude Law is an ambassador for the brand.
Alfred Dunhill inherited the company from his father and noticed a gap in the market for a response to the growing car industry, and began manufacturing hardware accessories such as horns, lamps and timepieces, but soon expanded into luxury items such as leather overcoats, goggles and picnic sets, all under the slogan “everything but the motor”.
Dunhill retired from the Motorities trade in 1907 and instead opened a pipe, cigar and tobacco shop in London. The success quickly led to similar stores being opened in New York and Paris within three years. The aftershave line followed soon after, along with watches and cigarettes.
